TLP is proudly organized by Beth Tzedec Congregation and Kehilat Shalom Calgary, with the support of the Calgary Jewish Federation.
What is TLP?
TLP aims to provide participants with a deep, meaningful, relevant relationship to Jewish wisdom through guided exploration of classic Jewish texts, in dialogue with contemporary sources of philosophy, psychology, sociology, and social criticism.

Though our learning will be text-based, the exploration itself will be quite active, both mentally through intense discussion and debate, as well as physically through interactive games and activities.

There are no specific content goals or any ideological bent to TLP. All of our learning is based around two basic principles:
One, as teens, participants have an opportunity/responsibility to both appreciate and think critically about the world around them, and two: the texts we will be learning during sessions can provide valuable and at times counter-intuitive insights to help them along in this thinking.
Who is eligible to participate?
TLP is open to any Jewish student in Calgary in grades 8-12.

Assuming we reach a critical mass of students, we plan on breaking up participants into two cohorts: one for students in grades 8-9, and one for students in grades 10-12.
Times of sessions
TLP sessions are held every other Thursday afternoon (alternating with our Teen Hangs) from 4:00-5:30 PM.

Pricing
Beth Tzedec and Kehilat Shalom are covering the cost of participation in TLP for teens in families that are members of either of these organizations.

The price for teens from outside either of these main partner organizations is $100 for the 5-session curriculum. However! For a limited time, we are offering a "Bring a Friend" price. Signing up with a friend or sibling brings the price for both registrants down to $150 total. ($75 for each registrant.) To take advantage of this offer, simply email Jonah at jpotasznik@bethtzedec.ca or Rabbi Leonard at info@kscalgary.org with your name and the name of your friend, following registration, and let us know you would both like the "Bring a Friend" price.

A representative from the Beth Tzedec office will reach out to families in this latter category following their registration in order to collect payment.
Teacher bio: Rabbi Leonard Cohen is the rabbi of Kehilat Shalom Calgary.  He joined the congregation in 2014, and became its rabbi upon ordination from Mesifta Adas Wolkowisk in 2016.  His service as rabbi builds upon twenty prior years of clergy and management experience in Montreal and Calgary.  Rabbi Cohen recently completed his Bachelor of Education from University of Calgary, and teaches and tutors all subjects.  When he's not rabbi-ing, you might find him hanging out with his family & getting mauled by their two cats, cooking up stuff in the kitchen, singing karaoke, or out scootering, rollerblading or cross-country skiing.
Teacher bio: Jonah Potasznik. Jonah grew up in the Washington, DC area, learned in Jerusalem for 3 years, and now is proud to call beautiful Calgary, Alberta his home. When working, Jonah splits his time between teaching Judaics and technology at the Calgary Jewish Academy, and educating/community organizing at Beth Tzedec. In other words, his real office is the parking lot between both buildings! When not working, Jonah can be found playing banjo, throwing around the frisbee, or reading big books with lots of deep thoughts he only bought to impress his friends.
